I regret to announce the passing of my father's elder brother Osvaldo (Aldo) Lachin "Scazzotta",
restaurateur and pater familias, born in Santa Lucia di Budoia on the 30th of July 1924.
My uncle had been in frail health for a while and passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in
Ledbury, Herefordshire on the 15th of January 2008, aged 83. He leaves a widow Barbara and a
daughter Gloria. Our thoughts are with them at this time.

"Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad."
Christina Rossetti (1830–1894)

This section will eventually contain information about my family history. Until I can
find the time to produce a full write-up and collate my images and links, here's a short
piece 'which I produced earlier':-
My name is Rudy LACCHIN and I live in Gloucester, England. My father is Francesco
LACHIN and he was born in Santa Lucia di Budoia, in the Provincia di Pordenone
(although before the boundary reorganisation in 1968 it would have been the Provincia
di Udine). My grandfather was Lorenzo LACHIN (1898-1960); my great-grandfather
was Francesco LACHIN (1868-1940); my great-great-grandfather was Giovanni LACHIN. I appear
to have gained an extra "C" in my surname when my father registered my birth... maybe his
English was not so good and there was some confusion at the registry...
'L-A-C...' 'Si, si!' 'Ah, C-C...' No-one really knows.

My branch of the LACHIN family are known as ('detto') SCAZZOTTA. *:) My father and
his two brothers Aldo and Angelo all live in the UK, as do all of their five children, ten
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Left: Aldo, Frank and Angelo at a family wedding (August 1981).

My mother's family are SIGNORA and they still live in Budoia at the crocevia with the
road to Santa Lucia.
I also have cousins in Venice although I have lost touch with them. My father's uncle
Cesare GASTALDON used to run the Ristorante Bella Venezia. His wife was Teresina LACHIN
and they had two daughters, Malli and Franca.
Other names in my family are PIZZINATO on my father's side and DEL ZOTTO, ZAMBON,
CARLON, ANGELIN, CAPOVILLA and SCARINGI on my mother's side. I believe we also have
some VARNIER, SERAFIN, CELANT, GOTARDO, PILOT, BRAVIN and DELLA FIORENTINA on my
father's side, but unfortunately I lost contact with my friendly Italian researcher
several years ago and my investigations came to an end.
If you share any of my family names or think you may be related to me, please get in
touch. My Italian is reasonable but I suspect your English is probably better! Click
